OPENINGS

YOUTH SPECIALIST

STATUS: Full-Time & Part-Time / Nonexempt

WORK HOURS:  Days and shifts may be flexible and are to be determined in accordance with the needs of the Detention Facility and the applicant.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision, maintains the safety and security of youth, staff, building, and grounds of the Detention Facility. Supervises the conduct and activities of detained youth, assuring adherence to all rules and regulations, using the least restrictive means necessary. Ensures the basic needs of detained youth are met while cultivating a rehabilitative environment. Observes and assesses the behavior of youth and prepares necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate manner. Provides transportation as needed. Performs other related duties as required.

 

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT - TEACHER

STATUS: Full-time / Nonexempt

WORK HOURS: Forty-hour work week; normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some flexibility required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides student instruction in fundamental subjects (e.g. English, mathematics, geography, history, reading, social studies, etc.), and basic life skills; supervises, monitors, and encourages individual work and progress. Monitors, supervises, and facilitates computer/online learning activities.

Assesses student learning and skill levels and designs an appropriate learning program.

In a timely and accurate manner, maintains attendance and scholastic records; prepares reports on student progress and behavior, maintains and submits records and reports as may be required by the court, the Board of Education, and the Ohio Department of Youth Services.

Maintains classroom order and discipline conducive to a learning environment, and in accordance with court and departmental policy and guidelines.

Counsels students regarding academic and behavioral matters; consults with detention administration/officers as necessary.

Obtains, maintains, and applies a working knowledge of court/detention policies, practices, and procedures.

Completes training and performs other related assignments as may be requested by the court.

 

 

DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

STATUS: Full-time / Nonexempt

WORK HOURS: Forty-hour work week; normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some flexibility required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  Instruction of students in education fundamentals and basic life skills; supervises and monitors students’ individual work and progress.

Recommends, develops, and coordinates curriculum and programmatic plans and advice for the Detention education program and staff. 

Assessment of student learning and skill levels and design of appropriate programs.

Planning and development of student objectives; writes lesson plans, selects materials and textbooks, grades papers, coordinates outside speakers for class programs.

Maintenance of attendance and scholastic records; prepares reports on student progress and behavior; maintains and submits records and reports as may be required by the Court, the Board of Education, the Ohio Department of Youth Services, etc.

Counseling of students regarding academic and/or behavioral matters; consults with Detention administration and Detention Officers.

Maintains classroom discipline in accordance with Detention Administration policy and guidelines.

In collaboration with public schools, coordinates and facilitates continued homework assignments.
